Born in Calgary, Alberta, Waddell Smith is a member of the Blackfoot Tribe, Siksika Nation. Smith is known for producing, writing and performing original material and is currently signed to Down Beat Productions recording label as a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. The rapper, aka WS1, is also associated with producer/rapper True JRC, forming the underground hip-hop duo known as True Underground Natives (True UGN).
As a solo artist he often switches genres and performs just as well when he sings his own style of grunge/rock music. Prior to founding Down Beat Productions, Smith was already developing his skills as an artist, performer and producer. From 2007 to 2010 he released 2 hip hop albums, 1 alternative album and 1 metal album - all of which were self-produced with underground quality. The self-taught producer decided to create his own music label as a platform for his future projects and to help promote indigenous talent.
